Installing Accumulator in Hydraulics

27 July, 2010- It is said that the quality of the ride in your car can be negatively affected with the installation of a hydraulics kit. That is why many people choose to install an accumulator. An accumulator absorbs shock created by low-riding hydraulics, and thereby providing a smoother ride.

FBefore installing the accumulator, check whether there's some oil running through the lines of the hydraulics system. If there is no oil running, then there won't be anything for the accumulator to absorb. Hence installing an accumulator wont make any difference. Accumulator installation works in hydraulic only when there is oil spill.
Install an accumulator as nearest to the hydraulics cylinder. The smaller the distance between the the source of the shock and the accumulator, the more effective the accumulator is.

It is better to install one accumulator per cylinder. The easiest installation method is to mount the accumulator in your car's trunk, where it is possible to access the hydraulics kit's dumps.

The accumulator fitting needs to be attached to the T-fitting of the dump valve. This will be connected to the hydraulics cylinder. This is done because the highest pressure is generated in the dump valves while the low pressure flows through inner pathways around the slow-down valve.

Add slow-down valves. You can also add shut-off valves, if you need to be measured a control over your accumulator. When making the attachment, use high-pressure valves. Since accumulators reduce the overall pressure and power of your hydraulics system, you can also turn them off when needed.

Install slow-down or shut-off valves by fixing them to the T-fitting of the dump valve. This exists between the accumulator and the dump valve. The accumulator will actually be attached to the slow-down or shut-off valve, not directly to the dump valve.
