27 April, 2010- The oil in a
hydraulic equipment acts as a power transmission medium. It also serves
as the entire system's lubricant and coolant and enhances the system's
performance and life span. Hence, the selection of an appropriate oil is
a crucial issue for the hydraulic system owners. Here are few
recommendations for
hydraulic oil selection:
Types of Oil
Crankcase Oil
In case of crankcase oil look for an API letter designation SE, SF, SG
or SH per SAE J183. Here, it is quite possible that one oil might meet
one or more of these designations.
Antiwear Hydraulic Oil
Antiwear hydraulic oil is generally produced by all major oil producers.
Such oils consist a fair quality of base stocks blended with additives
like antifoam, antioxidant, antiwear and antirust. These additives most
often are vegetable, petroleum or synthetic oil based. Since there are a
number of varied antiwear hydraulic oils present in a system, it is not
possible for the Vickers to test its composing products with all the
available fluid. To combat this issue it is wise to arrange an
evaluation process for fluid suppliers to make their products suit the
requirements of Vickers components. Basically its the oil supplier's
responsibility to make sure that the fluids supplied by him meet the
Vickers requirements.
Environmental Hydraulic Oil
In case you have an equipment that is operated in environmentally
sensitive areas, the environmentally intelligent fluid can be put to
use. Such fluids are known to perform well in hydraulic systems but
require extra care to control their excelling performance capabilities.
