Hydraulic hammers are an important type of pile drivers or pile hammer, which are used to stake piles into the ground and thereby lay the foundation for buildings in construction site. Usually, pile drivers are operated using diesel, pneumatics and hydraulics to deliver the force needed for large construction projects. However, hydraulic mechanism is more popular and hence hydraulic hammers are widely used in the construction industry for driving steel pipe, precast concrete, and timber piles. Hydraulic hammer are also considered more environmental friendly and they generate less noise and pollutants. They are generally widely used in areas sensitive to noise and vibration. The use of traditional vibratory hammers can disturb communities or destroy the stability of existing structures.
Working of Hydraulic Hammer
The working of hydraulic hammer is based upon the principle of fluid mechanics, where liquid is used to generate the force or power to do the rquired task. As a pile driving mechanical device, hydraulic hammers drive piles into the soil. Hydraulic hammers move in cycles of forward and reverse directions and the movement stops when the digging tool is raised and allowed to free fall. Once the digging tool reaches the surface, the hydraulic hammer resumes its movement to break up the surface. Hydraulic hammers can also be used for breaking rocks and concrete, when mounted on movable boom.
Interchangeable Hammer Bits
Depending on the device function as a pile dribver or as a breaker, there are different interchangeable hammer bits such as follows:
- Moil point
-
- Asphalt cutter
- Chisel point
- Sheet driver
- Pile driver
- Tamper
- Blunt
Hydraulic Hammer Impact: Driving Force
The force generated by hydraulic hammer is regulated by various factors like as follows:
- Ram stroke
-
Ram weight
-
Flow rate
-
Operating pressure
-
Energy output
-
Hammer weight and dimensions etc.
Applications of Hydraulic Hammers
Hydraulic hammers have versatile applications in the following fields are as follows:
- Demolition
-
Construction
-
Quarry
-
Metal forging
-
Piling industries etc.
