Hydraulic Pumps

Hydraulic Ram PumpHydraulic pumps are used in hydraulic drive systems deliver high-pressure fluid flow to the pump outlet. They are specially designed pumps widely used in industrial, commercial and residential settings to create useful energy from the pressurization of various viscous fluids. Powered by mechanical energy sources, the hydraulic pumps make use of gears, vanes, pistons and various other devices to pressurize fluid. When they are powered by pressurized fluid, the pumps rotate in a reverse direction and act as a motor. Hydraulic pumps are still the most widely used pump in industries today, in-spite of new and fast pumps being manufactured almost everyday. Hydraulic pumps act as motors and are brought into operation by high-pressured fluid using gears, pistons and other devices.
Hydraulic pumps can be categorized in two groups:
» Hydrostatic Pumps: They are positive displacement pumps.
» Hydrodynamic Pumps: They are of two types: (a) fixed displacement pumps, in which the displacement cannot be adjusted and (b) variable displacement pumps, in which the displacement can be adjusted.

Types of Hydraulic Pumps
» Air hydraulic pumps:Operated by a compressed air source and require no energy to maintain system pressure. They are energy-saving pumps.
» Electric hydraulic pumps: To provide electric power to machinery, they use hydraulic cylinders.
» Hydraulic clutch pumps: Here a clutch assembly is joined by a pump that lets the user to apply the required pressure to either engage or disengage the clutch system.
» Hydraulic gear pumps: They have intermeshing gears that displace fluid and this helps in the creation of mechanical power.
» Hydraulic hand pumps: They are manually operated to pressurize a hydraulic system.
» Hydraulic piston pumps: These makes use of a plunger like apparatus which helps in moving hydraulic fluids through a cylinder. » Hydraulic water pumps: They use hydraulic power to move water from one place to another.
» Hydraulic ram pumps: They have only two moving parts and they do not require any maintenance.

Applications of Hydraulic Pumps
Hydraulic pumps have applications in all types of low and high-pressure testing and oilfield uses such as removing cores from core barrels and testing valves, fittings. They are simple to construct and operate and are quite flexible with excellent performance. They are used in various industries like as follows: » Automotive
» Construction
» Agriculture
» Excavation
» Military
» Manufacturing industries
