Trailers are one of the most widely used earthmoving equipment. For movement of any large, heavy duty objects from site to site, trailers are used. The most commonly used trailer is the hydraulic trailer. Hydraulic trailers are either enclosed units or flat bed units designed to protect and carry materials from site to site like as hand and power tools, heavy duty units, research instruments, construction materials, and even small tractors and motor cycles. They are used for hauling tractors, implements, and supplies.
Hydraulic Trailer Working
Hydraulic trailers work on the priciple of hydraulic mechanism where fluid is used to generate power. Hydraulic trailers make use of
hydraulic cylinder to move the axles forward during loading. There is another cylinder located in in the trailer's gooseneck to tilt the bed as shown in the figure below. The use of two cylinders provides a loading angle and all stuffs can be easily be driven onto the trailer bed. Hydraulic trailers are equipped with
hydraulic winches to help in pulling equipment onto the bed and fastly secure it during movement. After equipment is loaded, the trailer bed is leveled and the axles are moved rearward to the normal transport position.

Hydraulic Trailer Brakes
There are two basic types of hydraulic trailer brakes:
Drum brakes: Drum brakes are original style of hydraulic brakes and use a hydraulically actuated wheel cylinder to force a pair of spring loaded brake strike against the internal braking surface of brake drum.
Disc brakes: Disc brakes are used in most modern automobiles and use a hydraulic actuation of a piston in the caliper to force the pads to close both sides of the rotor.
Hydraulic Trailer Types
Hydraulic Trailers are available in various styles and types such as follows:
- Hydraulic Dump Trailer
- Hydraulic Tipping Trailer
- Straight Tongue Hydraulic Trailer
- Goose neck hitch Hydraulic Trailer
- Single Axle Hydraulic Trailer
- Dual Axle Hydraulic Trailer
Hydraulic Trailer Features
- They are available in various weight capacities and sizes, from small utility types pulled by an SUV or pickup to large sized trailers.
- They are easily operated by users uing a switch or lever to raise or lower the trailer bed, to adjust the bed to ground height, raise to dock height or any level in order to simplify any loading or delivery situation.
- Hydraulic trailers can be used on public highways provided they have license plates and safety measures like as the use of safety chains, trailer lights working properly, and equipment securely fastened to the trailer.
